The Georgia Department of Natural Resources has proposed raising parking fees at state parks. State park visitors currently pay $3 per vehicle and can buy an annual park pass for $30. If approved by the DNR board, the daily parking fee will increase to $5 and the annual pass will increase to $50, effective May 20. New military and group discounts would be introduced as well.

A public hearing is set for April 6 in Atlanta, and public comments will be accepted through April 24. The DNR board will vote on the proposed increase at its next meeting on April 29.

Revenue generated from parking fees is used for maintenance and repair projects at Georgia’s 63 state parks and historic sites. A copy of the proposed change is posted on www.GeorgiaStateParks.org.
