One man killed in NCSO deputy shooting

One of the two men shot by Newton County Sheriff’s deputies Friday night in the Ellington subdivision off of Brown Bridge Road died at an area hospital.

According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the deceased, Freddie Blue, 20, was one of four suspects in a suspicious vehicle traveling on Brown Bridge Road Friday evening. Deondre Ramey, 18, who was also in the vehicle, was arrested on a violation of probation charge. Another passenger “who was shot was treated and released from the hospital,” according to GBI Public Information Officer Sherry Lang. the fourth subject in the car was not injured.

Lang said Blue was sitting in the back seat of the vehicle, and did possess a gun.

According to Lang, NCSO deputies spotted the car after receiving several complaints of a suspicious vehicle in the area.
“The vehicle they stopped matched the description of the suspicious vehicle,” Lang said.

According to NCSO Sgt. Cortney Morrison, a deputy conducted the traffic stop on Brown Bridge Road near Charleston Place between 8:30 p.m. and 8:45 p.m.

“As a result of the traffic stop a situation ensued and deputies discharged their weapons at two suspects, who were injured,”

Morrison told The News that no deputies were injured.

Lang said a thorough investigation will be conducted to determine what occurred and when the investigation is complete it will be turned over to the district attorney for any action she deems appropriate.
