Helping to fulfill a young child’s lifelong dream to become a police officer, Georgia Piedmont Technical College awarded 5-year-old Morgan Steward an "honorary degree" from its Law Enforcement Academy.

Morgan received a Police Academy Graduation Certificate Tuesday night, along with the other graduates who completed the rigorous training.

Morgan has spinal muscular atrophy and dreams of becoming a police officer. The city of Covington and the Covington Police Department has helped make Morgan’s dream come true. He recently participated in the Covington Christmas Parade as a police officer, and "Officer Morgan Day’’ was held for him Tuesday.

Upon hearing about "Officer Morgan Day," Maj. Harry McCann, director of GPTC’s Law Enforcement Academy, contacted CPD and arranged for Morgan to "graduate" with the LEA’s Class of 2013.

Morgan’s family was excited and cheered him on as he crossed the stage to receive his certificate. A video presentation, created by GPTC for Morgan and featuring some of his photos, was shown.
