ATLANTA - Georgia Power says building two more reactors at Plant Vogtle near Augusta could take longer and cost more than expected.

The subsidiary of the Atlanta-based Southern Co. said in a filing Friday that it's possible that two Westinghouse Electric Co. AP1000 reactors will be built on time and for a state-approved budget of $6.1 billion.

But company officials also said that schedule delays, change orders and the difficulties of trying to break ground on the first nuclear power plant in a generation could require more money and time. The company says the project will be cost-effective for customers so long as it's completed for less than $8 billion.

A state monitor said last month that the project faced "significant challenges" trying to meet its schedule and budget.
