You can do your part to clean up Newton County by volunteering for the Great Amercian Clean-up today.

Volunteers are still needed for the countywide cleanup. Show up at 9 a.m. at the Kroger on U.S. Highway 278 to receive supplies and free coffee and biscuits breakfast. All you have to do is show up.

Rain is expected to hold off until after noon, according to forecasters.

About 350 have signed up in advance and the campaign is expecting a bit more than 500 to help out on Saturday, according to Laurie Riley, stormwater program education specialist for Newton County.

"We're expecting a good turnout," she said.

Some roadways in need of attention include Brown Bridge Road, the Covington Bypass, Salem Road and Oak Hill Road.
