NCSS releases letter regarding schools being open

Good Evening!

It appears that the threat of winter weather for Newton County will not arrive until well after school ends on Tuesday evening. As a result, the Newton County School System will be open on Tuesday. Decisions regarding extracurricular activities for Tuesday will be made tomorrow. Should weather conditions change once school begins, we will institute the traditional early release schedule which will begin with the dismissal of elementary students at 11:15, followed by high school students at 12:15 and middle school students at 1:15.

We will continue to work with the Deputy Director of the Newton County Emergency Management Agency to monitor weather conditions throughout the night. Should current weather reports change, and school closure is necessary, we will announce the closing of schools in the morning. Please monitor your local news outlets and social media for information.

Decisions regarding the remainder of the week will be made closer to those specific days when the most up-to-date information is in hand.

Finally, it is important to note, that should closing school be necessary, students will be required to make-up the days during their upcoming Mid-Winter Break.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to make the best decisions regarding safety for all of our students, faculty, and staff members.

Sincerely,

Sherri Davis-Viniard
