Newton Newsflash: More construction this weekend

If you’re out and about this weekend, avoid sections of I-20 in Newton County as construction continues. Lane closures and long delays can be expected in the following areas and times:

- Sunday, July 20-Friday, July 25 at noon: The right eastbound lane will be closed from mile marker 92-95
- Friday, July 18-Monday, July 21 from 9 p.m.-5 a.m.: Two left eastbound lanes will be closed from mile marker 89.5-92 (Alcovy Road)
- Friday, July 18-Monday, July 21 at noon: The left eastbound lane will be affected from mile marker 94-96
- Friday, July 18-Monday, July 21 from 9 p.m.-5 a.m.: Two left eastbound lanes will be closed from mile marker 89.5-92

Chandra Mitchell becomes inaugural Newton County Schools ‘HERO’

History was made on Tuesday night when longtime Newton County Schools (NCS) employee Chandra Mitchell was named the inaugural Newton County Schools district-wide “HERO.”
