This summer 19 students from Newton High School and Newton County FFA were challenged to grow as leaders to find their “hero within.” They were part of more than 2,500 students who attended the FFA-FCCLA Summer Leadership Camp at the Georgia FFA-FCCLA Center in Covington. Summer Leadership camp provides a fun and exciting environment for students to develop their leadership and teamwork skills and to interact with other students from across the state.

In addition to learning leadership skills, the students enjoyed a week of swimming, fishing, horseback riding, zip lines, a giant slip-and-slide and more. Students also had the opportunity to participate in the Udder Mud Run muddy obstacle course while attending Summer Leadership Camp.

When asked about her experience at summer leadership camp 2014 Newton High School graduate Heather Stanley responded, “Camp allowed me to meet great people that I currently share friendships with and will also be attending college with. It’s an amazing time that I believe every FFA member should experience. Not only do you bond with other FFA and FCCLA members, but you also learn team bonding, leadership, good sportsmanship, compete in competitions and you will have a blast while doing it.”

With over 35,000 members, the Georgia FFA Association is the third largest state association in the nation.
