New park for Newborn

Residents of Newborn can come out and enjoy a new park, New Town Park.

Built this past June, Tom Kreiger, Keith Hunts and Larry Clement were behind the construction of the park. Surrounding the park is a pavilion, which is also available for reservation of local events, parties, etc., and town officials are looking to put up a fence and other facilities in the park to better accommodate guests.

The park recently hosted its first event for the Covington Century, cyclists from Newton, Walton and Morgan counties, who stopped through the park for water breaks during their 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. race for the "Trails on Tails" cause. On Oct. 6, Beryl Budd, retiree of the Georgia Forestry Commission, will have a retirement party at the park in honor of his dedication for Newton County, and the community forestry he has been a part of for the past 27 years. The park is not yet completed, but for now, residents and children can enjoy the swing sets, grills, and the walking path available for use.
