A middle school boy was found with a shank on the bus Wednesday afternoon.

According to Newton County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Cortney Morrison, a student saw the shank when both juveniles were heading home and told the bus driver. The bus driver approached the 13-year-old boy and asked for the shank, which he reportedly gave the driver without incident.

The shank was made with half a pair of scissors wrapped in black electrical tape. The blade was three and one-quarter inches long.

When questioned by the school resource officer the 13-year-old reportedly told them that no one was bullying him and that he didn't threaten anyone with the shank. He said he made the weapon at home the night before.

The boy was charged with weapons on school campus, a felony.
