March for Babies

The Rockdale/Newton March of Dimes chapter held its 2012 March for Babies in Olde Town Conyers Saturday morning.

The event's goal was to raise $99,000, which will go toward the purchase of a special ambulance for premature babies and support community programs that help moms have healthy, full-term pregnancies. The March for Babies campaign began in 1970 and has raised $2 billion.

The March of Dimes was originally founded to help efforts to research vaccines for polio, but now focuses its efforts on preventing birth defects and infant mortality.
