Jeremy Christopher Lee Smith, 19, was arraigned this morning on charges of rape, incest, exploitation of a disabled adult and sexual battery.

The charges stem from a call that came into the Newton County Sheriff’s Office on Dec. 5, 2009, from a man who claimed his daughter had been assaulted by Smith at a residence in eastern Newton County. After speaking with the victim who is in her late-teens, investigators charged Smith in the case.

Smith was arrested on Dec. 5 and initially charged with probation violation (original offense of burglary), disorderly conduct and sexual battery. The additional charges were later added following information obtained during the investigation of the accusations.

He is currently being held at the Newton County Detention Center without bond.
