Madeline Burgess (far left) received the Henry Pilcher Volunteer of the Year award on Tuesday.

The city council saw Madeline Burgess receive honors.

Burgess was awarded the Henry Pilcher Volunteer of the Year award for her dedication to the city of Social Circle, its enhancement and its beautification.

Burgess, wife of former Mayor Jim Burgess, started and edits the city newsletter, started the city-wide clean-up and has been on the Main Street board since its inception.

“She’s been a volunteer since I’ve known her,” said Patsy Joiner, chair of Social Circle Main Street. “We felt like she was very deserving of the honor for this year.”
