Local food bank lacking donations

The Community Food Pantry is currently looking for donations to feed families around Covington. They cater to Newton County residents who are lacking food and other supplies.

Bernice Bailey, of The Community Food Pantry, said there are many mouths to feed and would appreciate the help from citizens.

"We understand it is a difficult time for everyone, but we need all the help we can get," said Bailey.

The Community Food Pantry is looking for any canned goods and boxed lunches, particularly ones that have protein (canned meats, such as Spam). They also collect toilet paper, soap, tooth brushes, toothpaste and shampoo.

All supplies can be dropped off at 7125 Turner Lake Circle SW, Covington. They accept donations Monday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and Tuesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
If you'd like to make a monetary donation, you can send that to The First Presbyterian Church, 1169 Clark Street SW, Covington. All donations should be made out to The Community Food Pantry.

Needed items are as follows: canned vegetables, canned meat, canned tuna, cereal, grits, evaporated milk, canned fruit, beans, pork and beans, diapers, soap, shampoo, toilet paper, baby food, water, bread, peanut butter, jelly, canned spaghetti and flour.
