The annual art on the river event presented by the Arts Association in Newton County is taking things up a notch this year with a Kentucky Derby theme.

The event will be held 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on May 7 in Porterdale.

You can bring a picnic and spread out on the banks of the Yellow River by the Porterdale lofts, then take a stroll through the exhibit of art from the Southern Heartland Art Guild, Margaret Warfield and Susan Adams.
Later, you can dance under the moonlight with music from a live band.

Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for seniors. They can be purchased online at www.newtoncountyarts.org, by phone at (770) 786-8188 and in person at the Arts Association in Newton County office at 1106 Washington St. on the square.

The event is sponsored this year by Capes Properties, Edward Jones Investments - Stuart Hamilton, Porterdale Mill Lofts and OHCO, Inc.
