Help with heating bills offered

Help is available for paying your heating bills this winter through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program.

Applications are being taken and help is available beginning Dec. 1. The program is open to those 65 and older who are disabled or legally blind and to those with a life-threatening medical condition, and who make no more than 60 percent of state median income.

Yu can apply at the Conyers Street Gym, 1146 Conyers St., from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays through the end of the month. The first 20 applicants will be taken each session.

Applicants must provide proof of income for all household members age 18 or older, your most recent heating bill or a disconnection notice, proof of age for seniors or for youths age 17 or younger, proof of Social Security numbers for all household members, and a doctor’s note regarding a mental disability or qualifying health condition.
