Four people killed in weekend accidents

Four area residents, including one Covington woman, were killed in three separate accidents this weekend in Newton and Walton counties.

Two killed in Ga. 138, Gum Creek Road crash
A Sunday morning crash on Gum Creek Road in Newton County took the lives of Richard Lynn McKee, 24, of Loganville, and Deane Stapp Smith, 67, of Covington.

Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright said Smith's 2003 Oldsmobile Alero ran a stop sign on Gum Creek Road, causing McKee's 1986 Honda Rebel motorcycle to strike the driver's side of the Oldsmobile, killing both drivers.

One killed when SUV rolls over in Walton County
At 11:35 a.m. Saturday, a Ford Explorer driven by Tracy Marie Talley, 36, of Monroe overturned and ejected Talley, who was not wearing her seatbelt and was killed.

Talley was driving on Old Broadnax Mill Road, west of Bay Creek Church Road, in Walton County. Her vehicle traveled along the north shoulder of the road before crossing back over both lanes and overturning several times, Wright said.

Teen dies in ATV accident in Walton County
Madison Young, 15, of Monroe was killed Sunday afternoon when a Honda Rancher all-terrain vehicle struck an embankment and tree.

The Rancher was driving along Mount Ena Road, a half mile east of Jack's Creek Road, in Walton County when it ran off the road where the road curved on the right side and then struck an embankment and tree.

Katie Kennedy, 15, of Monroe was taken to Athens Regional for treatment; the crash remains under investigation, Wright said.
