Hearth and home: Covington Fire Department Capt. Tony Smith received a $1,000 donation from a local business Thursday for the CFD’s Fireplace, a community-based fire safety house. Smith said he has collected approximately $60,000 in donations and in-kind services from local businesses and residents for the house but still needs around $5,000 to make the house operational. He said all ages will be served by the house from school children learning how to exit a burning house safely to seniors being instructed on the safest methods of cooking and heating their homes.
