Update: Final report from Covington Fire Marshal Tony Smith on the fire at NyloBoard: The fire damaged one machine where the fire started; Smith estimated the damage to be between $5,000-$10,000.
Smith said two employees working around the machines were injured but were able to be treated on scene and released. The part of the plant involved in the fire will be closed for the rest of the day and won't be reopened until the company makes changes approved by the fire marshal's office to prevent future fires.
Original story: A fire has been reported at local industry NyloBoard, at the intersection of Alcovy Road and Ga. Highway 142.
Covington Fire Marshal Tony Smith said the initial caller reported hearing an explosion and there is smoke coming from one side of the building. Fire units were not yet on scene as of just before 11:30 a.m. but were on the way.
