Dr. Jabari Simama, president of Georgia Piedmont Technical College (GPTC), announces the appointment of Fred Perriman, Mayor of Madison, as a member of the college’s board of directors. Perriman was appointed March 2 during the Technical College System of Georgia’s recent Board of Directors meeting.
“I am pleased to welcome Mayor Perriman to Georgia Piedmont’s board of directors,” Dr. Simama said. “As a member of several civic and charitable organizations, he demonstrates strong leadership capabilities. I’m certain his knowledge will be invaluable as we move forward in executing our vision for the college.”
Perriman graduated from Pearl High School, in Madison, and attended Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville. In addition to serving as mayor of the City of Madison, he is currently the full-time pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Lincolnton. His civic and charitable activities include serving on the boards of the Georgia Municipal Association, the Northeast Georgia Regional Commission, the Morgan County Boys and Girls Club, and Unity Morgan.
Perriman’s board duties will include marketing the institution as a preferred college of choice and communicating ideas to the college president regarding local business and industry needs that could be met through programs and services offered by Georgia Piedmont.
“It is indeed an honor and a privilege to have been chosen to serve on the Board of Directors of Georgia Piedmont Technical College,” Perriman said. “I’m excited about the opportunity to work with the other board members as GPTC continues to provide quality educational opportunities for its students,” he stated.
The mayor is a member of the Morgan County Rotary Club, the Morgan County Ministerial Union, and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). He holds the distinction of having co-founded the Morgan County African-American Museum, and he also serves as president of that organization. His private sector work experience includes positions with AVADO Brands, Inc., Bard Manufacturing, and Horton Homes.
