STONE MOUNTAIN - An off-duty DeKalb County police officer is reported in critical condition after being shot during a robbery at a Stone Mountain apartment complex.

DeKalb police Lt. L.A. Ruffin says the officer was shot in the buttocks before midnight Monday at the Landmark at Mountain View complex. He underwent surgery early Tuesday.

Ruffin says the officer was the victim of an armed robbery and was shot when he tried to defend himself.

He says police are looking for two men who fled in a dark-colored vehicle, possibly a Toyota Camry, after stealing the 32-year-old officer's wallet. The officer has not been identified.
