Crowell Road opened at 3 p.m. today to the delight of many home and business owners in the area. The road was closed, between I-20 and Brown Bridge Road, on Sept. 23, because of the flooding that hit several parts of Newton County. The bridge on Crowell Road that was damaged will still need future repairs, but it will remain open temporarily until those repairs are financed.
District 3 Commissioner Nancy Schulz owns the Oaks Golf Course and like many business owners in the area, her business has suffered greatly during the downturn.
" This is a wonderful day," Schulz said. "I'm working on sending out an email right now to my entire databse to tell them to come back: 'Crowell Road is now open!' It's exciting."
Chairman Kathy Morgan said portions of Mt. Tabor Road remain closed and are not expected to open soon.
