On Monday night a man told Covington police his wife hit him several times in their home. According to the report, police responded to the call about an assault happening at a residence on Hicks Avenue.
Police talked to a man who said he was in his room upstairs laying on the bed, drinking a beer and watching TV, when his wife came into the room, jumped on the bed and started hitting him and screaming, "My ex-husband was a better man than you." The man said he told his wife to get off of him and he got up from the bed and went downstairs. He said his wife continued to yell and scream at him and followed him downstairs to the outside of the house. The man said their grandson heard them arguing and also followed them outside. The man said his wife then got into his son's pick-up truck with their grandson and pulled out of the driveway, almost hitting him twice.
Police reported that the man was hit on the left side of his face close to his ear. The woman was charged with simple battery under the Family Violence Act.
Burglary at storage facility
A deputy with the Newton County Sheriff's Office reported that someone broke into storage buildings at Ready Rental Storage located on Access Road. According to a report, a man told the deputy someone entered six storage buildings by kicking the doors open or cutting off the locks and clasps. The man said the buildings were entered between Saturday and Monday. The deputy took photos of the damage. Nothing was reported stolen at the time of the report.
