Deputies from the Newton County Sheriff’s Office arrested Stacy Litwiller early Sunday morning after she reportedly withheld information about a fugitive — Wayne Carmack — from them.

Deputies went to a home on Jackson Road to question Litwiller about Carmack who is wanted for, among other things, assaulting an officer. When they arrived, she reportedly gave deputies permission to enter her residence in an attempt to locate Carmack.

According to reports, deputies asked Litwiller if Carmack was in the home and she allegedly told them her was not in the residence and then changed her mind and told them he was inside the home. The report indicates Litwiller appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance at the time. Litwiller allegedly continued to answer questions in that manner, giving an answer and then changing her mind. She reportedly told deputies “You’re gonna put words in my mouth and you’re gonna hear what you want to.” While speaking with her, deputies allegedly noticed men’s clothing that matched Carmack’s last known clothing description in a clothes basket.

Litwiller reportedly told deputies that Carmack came to her home on March 21 and she allegedly admitted that she knew he was wanted by the Newton County Sheriff’s Department. When asked why she had not contacted them when he showed up at her house, she reportedly told them it was because she didn’t want Carmack to go to jail.

She was asked where Carmack was now and, according to reports, she said she knew where he was but gave deputies several different addresses. She then allegedly asked the deputies “What do y’all want, sex?” When she was told that what she had just asked the deputies was illegal, Litwiller allegedly began crying. Deputies once again told her that they wanted to know where Carmack was.

Litwiller then became extremely belligerent, according to reports, and began yelling at deputies.  She reportedly told them “I don’t know where he is, he may be next door or at his brother’s house, I don’t know!” She then allegedly refused to answer any further questions. She did, however, accuse deputies of attempting to allow Carmack’s wife to move back into the residence, which is why she believed they were there, according to reports.

Litwiller was arrested and transported to the Newton County Detention Center where she was charged with obstruction of officers.

Directionally challenged     
A woman who reportedly flagged down officers to ask for directions was arrested after law enforcement officials noticed the smell of marijuana coming from her vehicle.

According to reports, officers from the Covington Police Department were flagged down by Ashley Lauzon-Osier at roughly 8:30 a.m. Monday morning on Washington Street. She was allegedly looking for directions to the tag office. An officer walked to Lauzon-Osier’s vehicle to speak with her and reportedly noticed a strong odor of marijuana. The officer went back to his vehicle and called for backup because the woman had another car following her, according to reports. When backup arrived she was asked to exit her vehicle, which she did without incident.

When she came to a stop at the rear of her vehicle, the officers reportedly asked Lauzon-Osier if there was any marijuana in her vehicle or on her person and she allegedly told them there was not, then asked why they were asking her these questions. She was informed by officers that they were able to smell marijuana coming from inside her vehicle. While the officer was speaking with her, another officer looked in the driver’s side window and, according to reports, noticed marijuana lying on the seat, at which time Lauzon-Osier was placed under arrest.

While searching her vehicle officers reportedly found a glass pipe and a pink change purse, which contained what officers believed was marijuana, inside of her purse. When confronted with the pipe and drugs Lauzon-Osier allegedly told officers the marijuana was hers without being prompted. She also reportedly told the officers that she only used the marijuana because her doctors had prescribed so many other medications and that the marijuana “helped her cope.”

She was arrested and transported to the Newton County Detention Center where she was charged with possession of marijuana less than one ounce.
