Covington Y prepares Cheerios Challenge
Cheerios-2013--BDay-144

The Covington YMCA will host the 13th Annual Cheerios Challenge this Saturday, welcoming runners of all ages to its yearly Healthy Kid’s Day Celebration.

The Challenge begins at 7:30 a.m. with the Cheerios Challenge 10K, followed by the Trix Tot Trot (for runners ages 5 and younger) starting at 8:30 a.m. The event will conclude with the 1 Mile Fun Run at 9 a.m. before the Cheerios Challenge 5K at 9:30 a.m.

“Participation in this event continues to grow tremendously each year and we have come a long way in these 13 years,” said Kacie Brown, YMCA membership director said. “It is an exciting day for the YMCA and for our community. In 2013 we had a record setting turn out of runners and walkers and are expecting even more participants in 2014. We appreciate the hard work of our 116 volunteers who come out to make this event possible. The excitement and support around the Covington Cheerios Challenge is contagious.

“We are thrilled to announce that the Cheerios No. 31 Race Car will be back at our event again this year and we will also be having a Silent Auction in conjunction with our event,” she said.

Prizes will be award for overall fastest men and women’s times and there will be a variety of family-friendly activities near the race finish line.

New to the Cheerios Challenge this year is a silent auction. Bidding began Friday, but auction hopefuls have until the start of the 5K race to place their bids on items. Bidding will begin Friday morning during packet pickup at 10 a.m.
All proceeds will go towards the YMCA Annual Campaign which fund the organization’s scholarship program.

Runners can still register online at ymcaalanta.org/cvy or active.com and registration will be open through race morning.
