A Covington woman died and two people were injured in a two-car collision Sunday evening on Georgia Highway 20 at Buckingham Drive.

Kayla Quinnisha Ward, 20, was killed in the wreck, which occurred about 7:30 p.m. Sunday, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

It was raining at the time and the driver apparently lost control of the car, according to Newton County Coroner Tommy Davis. Ward died at the scene of blunt force injuries suffered in the wreck, Davis said.

According to the State Patrol:

Ward was southbound in a Honda Accord and attempted to pass another vehicle in a passing zone when the crash occurred. The Accord struck a northbound Chrysler Pacifica driven by 50-year-old Covington resident David Wells. Wells and his wife, Fannie, 47, were taken for treatment to Walton Regional Hospital, then transferred to Atlanta Medical Center.
