Covington Highway 142 widening shifting traffic
GDOTlogo - WEB

COVINGTON, Ga. - A Georgia DOT contractor will begin traffic shift setup Monday on the State Route (SR) 142/Industrial Park Boulevard widening and bridge project area.

The traffic shift should start at the bridge on SR 142 and go all the way to the end of the project. It could take two to three days to finalize. There will also be a shift on Alcovy Road. Both of these shifts are going to narrow the travel lanes, pushing traffic away from the work zone.

Then contractors are bringing in barrier wall starting the night of Sunday, May 14, also taking two to three evening work periods.

The barrier goes between the traffic and construction on the roadway's east side. It will run the entire length of the project, and Alcovy Road will possibly have one short section.

This temporary wall minimizes traffic interference during construction.

This $14.1 million contract was awarded for 1.6 miles of widening and reconstruction for additional lanes on SR 142 beginning at Interstate 20 and extending to Alcovy Road. The bridge over the CSX railroad will be replaced.

Southeastern Site Development, Inc. has a June 30, 2019 completion date.
