Covington Fire Department to host Fire House 5 race

Covington Fire Department officials are organizing an inaugural "Fire House 5" 5K Run and a 1-mile fun run to benefit the Covington Fireman’s Memorial Scholarship, which provides scholarships to graduating high school seniors in the Newton County School system, to be held on May 22. The road race will run the same course as the popular Covington Fuzz Run.

The 1-mile fun run will begin at 8:30 a.m. and all participants will be awarded ribbons. Awards will be given to the first, second and third place male and female runner under 12.

Awards in the 5K race, which begins at 9 a.m., will be given in categories of overall male/female, masters male/female and the top three male/female winners in age groups beginning 10 and under through 75 and older. Special awards for top male/female public safety officer will be presented as well.

Dri-Fit T-shirts will be guaranteed to all pre-registered participants and given until they run out for participants who register on race day.

Pre-registration, before May 15, is $17. After May 15 and on race day, registration will cost participants $20. A family pack, four for $50 (pre-registration and families only), is available. All registration fees are non-refundable.
