Covington detective arrested for battery

A Covington Police Department detective is on administrative leave after being charged with battery under the Family Violence Act.

According to Covington Police Detective Daniel Seals, deputies with the Newton County Sheriff's Office were called to a domestic dispute between Stanley Moore and his girlfriend. Following their investigation, Moore was charged. He is a detective with the criminal investigations division at the police department and is on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an Internal Affairs investigation.

"The Covington Police Department is fully dedicated to ensuring the public's trust in its officers," according to a press release from Seals. "The department holds its officers to the highest standard of professional and personal conduct. We intend to continue working fully with the Newton County Sheriff's Office to bring this situation to a complete and truthful conclusion."
