NEWTON COUNTY  – Citizens in Newton County voted decisively to pass a homestead exemption from school district property taxes for senior citizens.

The referendum was passed in a 7,546-990 vote.

Of the 2023 election cycle, this was the largest gap between sides as 88.4 percent of voters voted “yes” to the exemption.
