Hang tags available only at fire services starting in March

Vehicle hang tags for the Newton County Trash Collection Convenience Centers will be available for purchase only at the Newton County Fire Services Headquarters, effective March 1.

Since September, the tags were available for purchase at both the fire services headquarters and the Newton County Water and Sewerage Authority. However, tags can no longer be purchased at the water and sewerage authority after 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 28.

Newton County residents can continue buying their tags at the fire services headquarters, 4136 Highway 278, Covington between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Checks and credit cards only will be accepted, and purchasers must show a valid proof of residency in Newton County, such as driver’s license.

The vehicle tags are $50 and are good through June 30 for use at any of the county’s 11 convenience centers.

The convenience centers are open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Newton County’s convenience centers are located at Piper Road and Highway 36, Bypass and Flat Shoals roads, Sewart VFD, Stone Road, Highway 212 and Highway 162, Hazelbrand Road, McGiboney Road, Oak Hill Road, Adams Circle and Dial Mill Road.
