For the second time in a year, Newton County is without a fire chief.

According to county Public Information Officer Bryan Fazio, Jeff Monroe resigned Monday, Feb. 6, effective immediately.  He had been chief of Newton County’s 79 member department since March 2016.

Fazio said that an acting chief is expected to be named on Wednesday.
