COVINGTON, Ga. — Temperatures will fall through the low 60s and into the 40s Tuesday night as children make their annual dash for candy.

The National Weather Service predicted a temperature of 63 in the Covington area at about 7 p.m. Tuesday, when Halloween activities should be in full swing.

Lows in the mid-40s are expected overnight with light southwest winds.

It will be a far cry from last year, when Atlanta set a record high temperature for Oct. 31 with a high of 86 degrees. (The temperature Tuesday is only expected to reach the lower 70s.)

Events on tap for Halloween include Scare on the Square, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the downtown Square in Covington. Note that the Square will close at 4:30 p.m. for setup.

Also, the Porterdale Police Department will have candy for children from 6-8 p.m.
