The Washington Street Community Center is looking for instructors to teach afterschool homework instruction beginning Aug. 15.

“We need them as soon as possible,” said Bea Jackson, executive director of the center.

Instructors will provide homework instruction to students, kindergarten through 5th grade, Monday through Friday, 2:30 to 6 p.m. Subjects taught will include remedial social studies, science, English language, math and other enrichment activities.
“The qualifications [needed] are they must love children, they need to be able to write a lesson plan, they need to at least have basic skills in those areas,” said Jackson. “Each instructor will teach all subjects, but will rotate subject lessons each day.”

Jackson said there is a small stipend available for instructors.
