Outgoing commissioner to be honored for term

District 2 Commissioner Earnest Simmons will be honored for his 4-year term of office tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the Historic Courthouse.

The reception will immediately preceed tonight's Board of Commissioners meeting.

Simmons recently received an award from the Assocation of County Commisisoners of Georgia for completing government training courses. He focused on improving traffic and bringing amenities to his western district during his term. Simmons defeated Republican Ronnie Dimsdale in the 2006 election

Incoming District 2 commissioner Lanier Sims will be sworn in, along with District 4 Commissioner J.C. Henderson, at 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, also at the Historic Courthouse. Sims defeated Simmons in the July primary and Republican challenger Rickie Corley in the November General Election.
