Porterdale fireworks show still on

Porterdale officials are still planning to have a fireworks show tonight around 9:30 p.m., despite this afternoon's storms.

Councilman Robert Foxworth said the city is setting up fireworks now and will then cover everything up with plastic until tonight. Officials are monitoring a small patch of rain near Peachtree City, but Foxworth said even if the patch moves through Porterdale, officials will simply wait for it to pass and then shoot off the fireworks.

The city purhcased $13,000 worth of fireworks, nearly double Covington's amount, he said.

The Shane Millwood Band is still performing and about half of the original food and gift vendors remain set up in downtown Porterdale. Foxworth said Jimbo's Grill at the Mill is open and will have a band performing at its restaurant beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The fireworks will be shot off from the river around 9:30 p.m., Foxworth said. The best places to park are at the depot, city hall or the mill lofts.
