Today is the last day for city candidates to declare for office and a few posts still have no takers.
Porterdale's Council Post 3 opened up when Arline Chapman resigned the seat to make a run for mayor. The council voted last week to hold a special election to fill her seat's remaining two-year term on the same day as the regular municipal election.
The qualifying fee for a Porterdale council seat is $15. Qualifying takes place at city hall, 2400 Main Street, and it ends at 4:30 p.m.
The Council Post 2 seat in Newborn also has had no qualifiers. Post 2 is held by Dennis Fincher, who replaced John Donaldson in June when Donaldson moved out of town.
The qualifying fee for a Newborn council seat is $25. Qualifying takes place at city hall, 4224 Ga. Highway 142, and ends at 4:30 p.m.
Mansfield City Hall was closed on Wednesday, and no one could provide updated qualifying information late Thursday afternoon.
All seats in Covington and Oxford have at least one qualifier; as it stands now all Oxford candidates would run uncontested.
