Porterdale is revved up and ready for the 2010 Porterdale Reunion. Each year since 2003, the City of Porterdale, The Porterdale Woman’s Club and the Friends of Porterdale have sponsored this gathering, which has drawn in current and former Porterdale residents since the very first gathering.

This year’s event will feature book signings by Betty F. Jaynes, co-founder of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and Beth Bass, CEO of the WBCA, authors of The Butterfly Experience: Healthy Transitions in Athletic Hirings. Copies of "Diary of a Cotton Mill Girl," written by Lucy Ivey Shaw, will also be available, as will engraved bricks — proceeds from both will go toward renovating the Porterdale gym.

Additionally, there will be a bake sale hosted by the Porterdale Woman’s Club, and a silent auction with proceeds going toward the gym.

The reunion will also coincide with B.C. Crowell week, which runs from Aug. 23-28 with Saturday being proclaimed B.C. Crowell Day. Mayor Bobby Hamby will re-read the proclamation at 11 a.m.

The reunion will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Registration before the event will be held at the Porterdale Mill Lofts.
