Councilwoman Arline Champan will resign her seat on the council and run for Porterdale Mayor this year.

"It is time for a progressive leader to take the helm of the city to ensure progress and the development of its natural resources for recreation and growth," Chapman said in a press release.

Chapman was first elected to the Post 3 council seat in 2008 to fill the unexpired term of a council member who moved out of town. She won reelection in 2009 when she ran unopposed.

Mayor Bobby Hamby has not officially announced if he will run for mayor.
