After several homes in developing neighborhoods were found burglarized in recent months, deputies from the Newton County Sheriff's Department have stepped up patrols in those areas in an attempt to quell the thefts - a decision that paid off recently in one particular subdivision.
According to reports from the NCSO, a deputy was on patrol in a new subdivision off Salem Road on Saturday evening when he noticed a suspicious vehicle with one man and two women parked on the side of the road.
The deputy made contact with the man in the car, identified as 31-year-old Michael Eugene Ingle, and found the man had a warrant outstanding in Rockdale County. Ingle was placed under arrest at that time and the deputy reportedly made contact with two females who were still inside the suspicious vehicle.
While speaking with the women, the deputy allegedly noticed bolt cutters, pry bars, gloves and copper shavings lying on the floor in the vehicle. Since the vehicle was not registered to Ingle, the owner was contacted, and when he arrived at the scene he reportedly told the deputy the tools did not belong to him. After receiving this information from the vehicle owner, Ingle was additionally charged with possession of burglary tools, drugs/medicine prepared only by a registered pharmacist and pills to be kept in original container and transferred to the Newton County Detention Center.
Also placed under arrest was one of the females, 39-year-old Barbara Ann Day. She was transferred to the Newton County Detention Center and received a charge of drugs to be kept in original container (Soma, a muscle relaxant), possession of a tool during the commission of a crime and possessing drugs/medicine prepared only by a registered pharmacist.
