A body found in the woods off Crowell Road Sunday evening has yet to be identified but is awaiting examination at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab.
The body was found by a man who was searching for Civil War relics.
According to 1st Lt. Mark Mitchell with the Newton County Sheriff's Office, the body was found about 7 p.m. just south of the Access Road.
The remains had likely been there for some time.
Because of the length of time the body has been in the woods, a forensic examination will need to be done. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is currently working on cases ffrom across the entire state, and it could be some time before identity is released. The case is still being looked at as a death investigation and not a homicide.
