newton marching band
The Newton High School marching band is one of several musical groups to perform in the 2015 Covington Lions Christmas Parade.

The Covington Lions’ club Christmas Parade is one of Covington’s richest Christmas traditions, and those interested in being part of the event can register online at covingtonlions.org.

The parade begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3, with lineup occurring on Newton Drive. The deadline for entries is Saturday, Nov. 19, though registration will be closed after 100 entries are received.

Churches, businesses, dance troupes, marching bands, civic groups, youth groups, families, sports teams, equestrians and others can enter. A $20 entry fee is required.

Awards will be given to the best float based on holiday spirit, creativity and construction. First and second place ribbons will be awarded in categories such as schools, Scouts, churches, civic groups and businesses. Awards for best rider costume, horse costume and most holiday spirit will be included in the horse awards competition, as well as a judge’s choice award.
