Ruben Bravo wants to bring metro-quality entertainment east of the perimeter.
For years Bravo has worked in front-end management and special event planning for his family’s Conyers-based business, Los Charros Mexican Restaurants.
Now Bravo is venturing out on his own with his new company Bravo Entertainment — a one-stop shop for planning private parties as well as booking comedy acts, DJs and live bands, and even catering.
March 26 marks Bravo’s first event, which he’s calling "Lush Comedy." Comedian Chris Thomas will perform two shows, one beginning at 8 p.m. and the next at 10:30 p.m. at Club 908 at 908 Commercial Street in Olde Town Conyers.
"Tickets are $10 in advance, so it’s recession-proof," Bravo said. "You can’t get into any comedy club in Atlanta for $10."
Thomas, originally from Maryland, began his comedy career at age 8 as an impressionist. Today he’s known for dead-on impressions of Denzel Washington, Mike Tyson, Orson Wells and hundreds of other celebrities. He has he worked with famous stand-up comedians and musicians, been featured in advertising campaigns, music videos and films and made weekly appearances on New York syndicated radio show "The Chris Thomas Comedy Hour."
He has also starred as the mayor of BET’s popular show "Rap City" and was one of two comedians to team up with Whoopi Goldberg for her HBO comedy special "Chez Whoopi."
Music for the evening will be provided by DJ Krunk with 50 Deep.
Because Club 908 has a full bar, the show is open to only those 21 and up.
Tickets are available at any Los Charros location or for $15 at the door. An extra $5 will buy you an armband for a VIP meet-and-greet with the performer after the show.
Bravo also has several more events planned through the spring season.
"I want these events to get bigger and bigger," Bravo said. "Hopefully one day I’ll be able to plan a music and comedy festival at the Horse Park. That’s my goal — to bring great entertainment to this area and save people a trip into Atlanta."
