Local optical business Covington Eyes owner Dr. Andrea Washington is relocating her business to a building behind Newton Medical Center.

Washington is currently conducting her optical business inside of the Walmart supercenters on Industrial Boulevard in Covington and Salem Road in Conyers.

“I am only able to do eye exams now, but when I relocate to this new building, there will be more services available,” Washington said.

Washington will now also have more products such as contact lenses and safety glasses. There will be longer, extended business hours. “I can now open as early as 7 a.m. and close as late as 7 p.m., and Saturday hours will now be available as well,” Washington said.

The new hours will be:
Monday – 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Tuesday – 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Wednesday – 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Thursday – 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Friday – closed
Saturday – 8 a.m. to noon

Washington said she is mainly relocating her business because it will allow her to go into her own private practice and conduct own business. Washington is expected to open up her new facilities on April 15, and she is still trying to establish a name for the business.

“Right now, everyone knows me as Dr. Washington and that is what my business will go by until a new name is established, because I want it to be something new,” Washington said.

Washington also feels that the expansion will help her gain more customers.

“I feel that this relocation will help me gain more customers, because I will be able to offer so many more services at my new facility and not just eye exams,” Washington said.
