An employee monitoring the switchboard at Bard, on Industrial Blvd. in Covington, received a phone call at 12:47 p.m. Tuesday, stating “There’s a bomb and it will go off in 10 minutes.”

Management was informed of the call and an evacuation of the facility was conducted, and law enforcement was called to the scene, according to the Covington Police Department.

“A search of the facility was conducted and no explosive or hazardous materials were found,” Covington Police Department officer Allan Seebaran said.

CPD detectives tracked the 404 area code number the threat was called in with and identified the caller as Baha Hassan. Hassan, of Decatur, was a former sub-contractor, not employed by Bard.

He was arrested Thursday and is currently being held at the Newton County Jail on charges of terroristic threats and transmitting a false public alarm.
