Terrific tumblers: McKenzie Crowe, left, and Kristi Rene Smith both placed first in their divisions at the 2009 Amateur Athletic Union National Championships that took place from June 24 to June 28 in Savannah. Both Crowe and Smith train at Rockdale Gymnastics under Drew and Cynthia Nash and Joe Ashley. Crowe received first place in the bars, beam and floor competitions and second in vault. Her overall score was 36.75, earning her first place in the SR B 13/14-year-old age division. Crow attends Eastside High and is the daughter of Matt Crowe of Oxford and Voni Crowe of Covington. Smith also received first place honors in bars, beam and floor and second place in vault in her age division. She clinched the first place title in the JR C 12-year-old age division with an overall score of 36.70. Smith is a seventh grade student at George Walton Academy and the daughter of Chris and Gidget Smith. Her grandparents are Billy and Irene Smith of Covington.
