An art contest to raise awareness of exception children and their recreational needs is being offered by
the Miracle League of Newton County and Newton County Special Olympics.
The contest is open to ages 5 to 22, and the artwork theme must feature a child or children with special needs participating in some type of recreational activity. The picture must be created on 8 ½-inch-by-11-inch paper in any medium, but can't be three-dimensional.
Entries must be submitted by April 18. Bring submissions to the Newton County Recreation Commission at the Turner Lake Complex, or give the work to a local school (public or private) art teacher.
Submissions will be displayed at the Newton County Special Olympics track and field events May 2-4, and at the Newton County Library beginning May 9.
Prizes will be awarded to top three contestants in elementary, middle and high school age groups. Note-cards will be made of all prize-winning artwork to use as a fundraiser for the Miracle League. Prizewinners will be notified on April 25.
