A taste of the Artful Harvest

Southern Heartland Arts Inc. invites the public to visit Artful Harvest, the annual invitational judged art show, sponsored by United Bank, during September.

Gallery artists are donating hanging space to accommodate the show, which will see artist entries from adjacent counties and art guilds. Art will be received starting Wednesday from 10 a.m.- 3p.m.

With no requirement to be a member to participate, SHA invites any artist in the community to participate. A prospectus and entry form may be downloaded from southernheartlandart.com or picked up at the gallery on the square.

Artful Harvest will officially open on Friday, and this year, as their goal for their grant from the Newton Fund of the Greater Atlanta Community Foundation, SHA has concentrated on attracting junior artists of all ages. As part of this outreach to junior artists, children and young adults under 18 may enter their piece free of any entry fee.

This year’s judge is Margee Bright Ragland, associate professor of art at Perimeter College. In addition to her teaching experience, she has led System Council study abroad in Chile, Greece, Italy, Spain, England and France.
Ragland teaches drawing, watercolor, and art appreciation and is a professional artist and illustrator, exhibiting throughout the southeast United States, Europe, and Latin America.

The reception for the awards presentation, hosted by the Heartland Woman’s Club, is Thursday, Sept. 11, 5 – 7 p.m. at Southern Heartland Gallery and is open to the public. The show will end Thursday, Sept. 25.
