The store still stands on U.S. Highway 278, a tribute to times gone by. But recently Brick Store has received some long overdue credit, after being added to the National Register of Historic Places. After 18 months of hard work, researching ownership and past uses of the former Superior Court of Newton County building, the Newton County Historical Society and the county's landscape architect were informed of the decision.

A sign will be placed at the site notifying visitors of the designation and the historical society has plans to turn the building into a museum in the future.

The building is currently vacant and has been since the mid-1950s. The Historical Society hopes to use the building's past history in their plans for a museum that would, according to Debbie Bell, Newton County's Landscape Architect and the society's treasurer, "interpret its historical uses, primarily that it was once a stagecoach stop."
