Voting in Tuesday’s midterm elections was down slightly from the last cycle in 2010.
In the 2014 Election 28,699 of the 56,306 Newton County registered voters (50.97 percent) went to the polls or sent in absentee ballots. In 2010 Newton County saw 52.97 percent of its 54,219 registered voters (28,718) cast a ballot.
Tuesday night, Newton County voted to have Michelle Nunn elected for US Senate, topping David Perdue 14,229-13,648. Perdue won the election statewide.
The Democratic candidate for Georgia Governor also carried Newton County, slightly. Jason Carter received 14,065 votes to Nathan Deal’s 13,603. Deal was elected Governor.
